The Edmonton Oilers are still searching for a winning season, and that means the team is continuing to search for a coach.
But now, they’re looking for a guy who won’t have to do much searching at all.
“We’re looking to find somebody that has a winning mentality, a winner mentality, and he’s going to help us win games,” Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli said on Tuesday.
“That’s what we’re looking at and it’s really up to us, because we’ve had the success of the last two years.
We’ve won two Stanley Cups.
But we’re not looking for any one person that’s going win every game.
We’re looking across the board.
We’re not going to be searching for one person, we’re going to search across the whole league.
We can find a guy that has the mentality that will be successful.”
The Oilers are looking for McDavid to coach them for the next 10 years.
They’re looking through the coaching ranks across the NHL.
The team hired Mike Babcock on Monday as its new head coach, replacing Mike Babiak, and will be hiring an assistant coach for the upcoming season.
“I’m sure that there are some people out there that are in need of a coach, and there are a lot of people out in the coaching world that are looking to hire somebody,” Chiarell said.
“But, for me, this is the best thing that I can do for the organization.
This is my first opportunity to be a part of a hockey team, and I’m excited to be able to do that.”
The most important thing about Chiarella’s hiring, he said, is the team’s commitment to winning.
“It’s the same thing for us.
We want to win and we want to build this team,” Chiareslli said.”
The fact that we’re winning so consistently, that we have a really good group of guys that are playing well, it gives me hope for what the future holds.”
McDavid said the Oilers need to be in a position to be competitive with other teams in the league.
“When you look at our position in the standings, we are not playing very well,” McDavid said.
“”I feel like we’re in a good spot right now, and hopefully we can take that momentum and continue to be good for the team.
“The team’s current goalie is not happy about his team’s chances.”
McGuin, a former coach in the NHL who won the Stanley Cups with the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames, said the team needs to focus on being better than the past.””
So, we have to be better than that.”
McGuin, a former coach in the NHL who won the Stanley Cups with the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames, said the team needs to focus on being better than the past.
“There are a few things that we need to focus more on.
I think it’s a little bit of an opportunity, but we have got to get better every day,” he said.
McGuins first NHL win came in 2004 with the Vancouver Canucks, but his next one came against the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2006, and the Oilers were 1-3-0 with him as their coach.
He has been on the bench for two of the Oilers’ past three Stanley Cup wins, but he’s on the team this year, too.
Mcguin said he hopes McDavid has an opportunity to coach the Oilers again, even if it’s for 10 years at least.
“At some point in time, it might be in my career, maybe, but right now I’m focused on winning,” he told reporters.
“That’s all that matters.
If it’s in my life, then it’s something I would be happy to do.
But right now is a different time, a different era, and it would be something that I’d be happy if he could be here for 10 more years.”
Hopefully he’ll come back in a few years.
“McDonagh has been coaching the Buffalo Sabres since the 2010-11 season.
He coached the Toronto Maple Leafs for five years, and has been with the Edmonton Oilers for the past three seasons.
He said he’s confident McDavid will be able coach the Edmonton franchise well enough.”
He’s got the right combination of skills, and as we’ve said, he’s got a lot going for him,” McDonagh said.
